Our Story
An independent family run village gastropub in the heart of Lincolnshire
The Chequers
The Chequers has been part of Potterhanworth village life for nearly two centuries. Set within a characterful Victorian building on a site believed to have welcomed guests since the late 1700s, the pub has long been a place where the local community comes together, and that sense of community remains at the heart of everything we do today.
Over the years, The Chequers has evolved from a traditional village inn into the relaxed, food-led neighbourhood pub it is now; somewhere equally suited to a quick pint at the bar, a midweek supper, Sunday lunch with family, or long evenings spent with friends.
We're passionate about warm hospitality, seasonal food, proper pub classics and creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels comfortable, familiar and easy to return to time and time again.
Whether you're a familiar face from the village or visiting for the first time, we hope The Chequers feels like your local too.

What We Believe In
Local Sourcing
We're big believers in supporting local wherever we can. Our meat comes from Lincolnshire farms, we source our vegetables locally, and even our fish comes from right here in Lincolnshire too.
Community Hub
The Chequers is more than just a pub, it's a community gathering place. We host weekly quiz nights, occasional live music events, and special celebrations throughout the year. We also provide space for local groups and clubs to meet.
Meet Our Team
Our dedicated team works hard to ensure every visit to The Chequers is a memorable one. From our experienced kitchen team preparing delicious meals, to our friendly bar staff serving your drinks with a smile, everyone here is committed to providing excellent service.
Many of our team members have been with us for years, becoming familiar faces you'll recognise on each visit. We're a close-knit group who take pride in our work and love being part of village life.
