History of the Chequers, Potterhanworth
It is believed that the village of Potterhanworth was originally a roman settlement and from the 14th century became an important part of the local pottery trade, hence the term Potter in its name.
The Chequers was first licensed as a stone building in 1786 and has had a continuous line of licensees ever since. It was rebuilt in the late Victorian times, and was doubled in size in 2007 by the current owners, to include a large kitchen and purpose built function room.
